Writing Muscles

I’ve made a promise to myself to write something every day. It has been a long time since I have written anything creatively, and I know that I need to stretch that muscle and get back “in the groove” of writing. I’m not being too critical of myself as to what the nature of the writing is. I just need to write. Every day. Make writing a part of my daily life if I ever want to be a good writer.

So far, that has meant blog posts here, the first four pages of a short story, and research notes for the short story. It is not an earthshattering amount, but that’s not the point right now. The point right now is consistency. Something I have always struggled with. My job right now, as I see it, is to acknowledge that lack of discipline and to do the work to move beyond that.

Today I was watching a live stream from a new friend of mine on YouTube, who has a channel similar to mine. Over the past few days, I have been helping him get his audio squared away, and it was fun to see it in action today. His audio was excellent today, by the way. Kind of proud I was able to help!

During his stream, he talked about being consistent on YouTube, gave a shout-out to my channel, and asked his folks to subscribe. I told him I struggle with consistency, and he said that is the main thing to focus on. Nothing else matters but that. All the other advice of do this – don’t do that – is bullshit. If you want to grow on YouTube, or in anything really, it’s all about consistency. Showing up, doing the work, and being something people will come to trust because of it. That builds loyalty, and to a Gen-X’er, that means everything to us.

These blog posts aren’t about the readership numbers, the quality of my words, or the amount of words on the page. For now it’s only about keeping the promise to myself that I will write. I will write every day and do my best to be consistent and do the work. The quality and volume of my words will come in time. I know that to be true. Right now it’s only about one thing.

Consistency.

I’m Brandon . . .

A creator who never pursued their passion until much later in life.

I’m currently working on my first book, PIPs GAMBIT, the first in a series called The GAMBIT PROTOCOL. This is my first attempt at writing for the public, and as per my nature, I have probably bitten off more than I can chew by deciding to write a series. Go big or go home, right?!

I believe that words have power. These are mine.
